(An excerpt from an e-mail “Torres” sent to his friends at the office of
one of his co-raisers)
Hi, it’s me, Guide Dog
Puppy Torres,
Well the time has come
when I must return to Guide Dogs in San Rafael. My momma Nona, Papa and
Nana Judy are taking me back this Saturday so I can finish my journey,
hopefully as a guide dog for the blind. Since my Nana is retiring Dec.
7th, I guess that makes me the last Guide Dog that will be raised at the
Court. I bet there are not many Supreme Courts in the USA that can
claim that distinction!
It has been wonderful
that all of us puppies have been allowed to be raised here and to have
had the wonderful support over the last 7 years given to my Nana.
I want to give a big
juicy wet kiss to Ron and Karen for their support to this program. If
not for them, so many of us couldn't say, " We were raised at the
Supreme Court since we were 8-10 weeks old until we reach that magic age
of year and half." Wags and kisses to you both. Also, thank you to all
the very special people in my life from around the Court.
My Nana has told me
names (that she could remember) of all the Guide Dogs that have either
been raised here or just came for visits, they are:
Jigsaw
Jabir
Hesper
Kirsten
Nattie (a Guide in Hermosa Beach Calif.)
Wesley ( a Guide in KY)
Willard ( a Guide in Austin, Texas)
Françoise ( a breeder)
Freeman (Auntie Anna's favorite and who is a breeder)
Tate ( a breeder)
Gillespie ( works with blind children in Calif.)
Dayton (Nana's dog and co-raised with Warren and Claudia Wish, who
was a Guide but has since been retired )
Hannigan (a guide in Calif.)
Indy ( a guide)
Brian (Nana's dog, didn't make it as a Guide, but is a therapy dog
here in Carson, raised with Christina Van Hook & Sandy Arnn)
Bove (Nana's dog
and Momma Nona's, who is a Guide to a 17 year old boy in Fremont
Calif.)
You should all feel
honored that this project was accepted and supported by this Court.
Thank you all, kisses and wags,
Torres
